Obituary of Eugene Ackerley

Home: Grahamsville, New York USA Place of Birth: Town of Neversink, New York USA Obituary Eugene Ackerley Grahamsville, NY Eugene Ackerley, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away on Sunday December 22, 2013 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was 64. The son of the Arnold C. and Margaret Ellen McGuire Ackerley, he was born on February 16, 1949 in the Town of Neversink. Gene served on the Police Department for the Village of Woodridge for 35 years, working his way up to Police Chief. He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1968 to 1971. He was a member of the Neversink Beagle Club and Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545 of Liberty. Gene was an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable hours playing golf with his friends. "Gene's charismatic personality and smile was like no other. We will remember him for his sense of humor and his greatness." He survived by his loving family; his mother , Margaret Ackerley of Liberty, NY; wife, Maria Sutherland Ackerley, at home; son, Eugene Ackerley Jr. of Grahamsville; daughters, Lindsay Garvey (Luke) of Pine Bush and Meghan Ackerley of Palm Coast, FL; brothers, Arnold Ackerley of Liberty, Richard Ackerley of Fayetteville, NC and Donald Ackerley and his companion Colleen of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Marion Wegman of Liberty, Marjorie Fairbairn of Liberty, Virginia Kiefer of Jeffersonville, April Malara of Jeffersonville and Cindy Barber(Edward) of White Lake; two grandchildren, Logan and Lexi Garvey and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Jon Sutherland (Justine)(Jon and Gene were also best friends) and Bill Sutherland (Mary), all of Parksville; sister-in-law, Peggy Morgans (Lynn) of Parksville and his special cousin, Billy Ackerley (Diane) of Woodbourne. He was predeceased by brothers, Wesley and Roy Ackerley and sister, Caroline Johnson and by his father Arnold C. Ackerley Sr. Friends may call on Friday December 27, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 28 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Hewitt will officiate.
