Obituary of Elinor Schaefer
Elinor Schaefer, late of Rock Hill, formerly of New Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 88.
She was the daughter of the late John Singelsether and Sally Svendsen Singelsether, born on April 14, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. Elinor was an employee of the New York Telephone Company, now known as Verizon, and worked as a clerk in the Central Office for most of her 32 years; prior to that she was a telephone operator. When her job required a transfer from Monticello to Newburgh in the mid1980's, Elinor began attending the Gardnertown United Methodist Church and later became the church secretary for 15 years following her retirement from Verizon. Elinor was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers and the Association of Bell Tel Retirees. She strongly supported the "Wounded Warrior Project."
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters Karen Linen (husband: John), and Lori Hastings (husband: Glenn); grand-daughter Allison Linen; nieces Kathleen Ronstrom and Patricia Seward; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews (Rhiannon, Mary, Jeffrey and Kyle). She is also survived by her former sisters-in-law, Marlene Dexter and Mary Anne North, and former brother-in-law, Dr. Anthony Annunziata. She was predeceased by her son Gary (stillborn), niece Wendy Annunziata, and former husband and father of her children, Walter Schaefer, with whom she enjoyed an enduring friendship despite their divorce.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Catskill Regional Medical Center, and in particular, the employees of the Skilled Nursing Unit for the compassionate and professional care rendered to Elinor as one of its long-term residents.
