Obituary
Iona (Ione) W. Albrecht
Bethel, NY
Ione Williams Albrecht passed away peacefully on Thursday August 17, 2017 at the age of 101. She was a resident of The Belle Reve Senior Living Center in Milford, PA. Ione was born on March 26, 1916 in Kauneonga Lake, NY to William and Phyllis Smith Williams. She attended Monticello High School graduating class of 1935. She married her high school sweetheart, William Karl Albrecht, in 1937.
The couple lived in Monticello for several years before relocating to Indian Field Lake in Bethel, NY. William (Will) and brothers Fred and Eugene Albrecht and sisters Doris Burns and Annette Lange helped run the family business, the Victoria Hotel, on the corner of Broadway and Pleasant St. The three brothers served in the Armed Forces during WW II, while Ione and Will's sisters and parents ran the hotel. Ione also worked at the Hammond & Cooke Dept. Store and the Rialto Pharmacy. After the war, she began a career at the NY Telephone Co. as an operator and worked her way through the ranks to Chief Operator. In 1965, Ione retired to enjoy fishing, travelling and entertaining family and friends with her beloved husband.
Ione was predeceased by her parents, husband, grandson, Richard Pepe and siblings, Merle and Emmett Williams and Grace Crandall. She is survived by two daughters, Camille Pepe and her companion Craig Stewart of Callicoon, NY and Brenda DiGiovanni (Philip) of Pinehurst, NC; four grandchildren, Gregory Pepe of Clayton, NY, Dr. Christopher DiGiovanni (Susan) of Milton, MA, Maria DiGiovanni (David Casey) of Pinehurst, NC and Andrew DiGiovanni (Rachael) of Piermont, NH; seven great-grandsons, Nicholas, Philip, Cameron, Jack, Peter, George and William; two step-great-grandsons, Wesley and Rowan and several nieces and nephews.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ione was well-known for her kind and generous nature. Ione was a fabulous cook, a superb dancer and a gracious hostess, welcoming all to her home. She gave unselfishly of herself throughout her life. Those fortunate enough to have known her shall grieve the loss of so happy, pleasant and caring a woman who spent her life nurturing, teaching and supporting others. Her wish was to be reunited in Heaven with loved ones, especially the love of her life, her husband Will. His cremains will be buried with her.
The family will receive friends on Friday August 25, 2017 from 9 - 11 AM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 AM with Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating. Burial at Evergreen will immediately follow.
