Obituary of Edward W. Jones

Jones, 80, of Westbrookville, NY, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. Eddy was born on August 20, 1934 in Brooklyn to the late James and Jess Driscoll Jones. He was raised in Rosedale, Queens. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, he attended the State University of New York Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler, where he graduated as an officer in the United States Navy. After serving two years in the Navy, he went on to receive his Master's Degree in Education from New York University. Eddy taught English in Syosset, NY for over 30 years. In his retirement Eddy enjoyed travelling with his wife to their cabins in Upstate New York and Florida. Eddy's love of fishing, sailing, reading and his generosity will long be remembered, along with his love of telling stories, his amazing memory and his ongoing love of literature. He is survived by his wife of 56 years ,Alva DePaoli Jones at home; two sons, Stefan Jones of Portland, OR and Dylan Jones of Locust Valley, NY; two daughters, Lydia Macci and her husband, Lee of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Lilith Jones of Huntington, NY; two granddaughters, Allyson and Jessica Macci and various other family members and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held to honor Eddy's life at a future date.
