Obituary of Lawrence Unger

Home: Liberty, New York USA Place of Birth: Brooklyn, New York USA Obituary Lawrence "Larry" Unger Liberty, NY Lawrence Unger, age 81, passed away August 15, 2015 in West Palm Beach Florida following an extended illness. He was born in Brooklyn NY on November 29, 1933 to the late Max and Anna Kaplan Unger. He was raised in Swan Lake and graduated from Liberty Central High School. Larry enlisted in the Air Force and served for 23 years. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received numerous accommodations for meritorious service and valor including the Bronze Star. He was selected as Airman of the Year for 1969. He was a true American hero. Larry retired from the Air Force in 1974 as a Chief Master Sergeant and returned to Liberty where he successfully started and operated Catskill Country Homes. He was well known in the community for his generosity and willingness to help others. He was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons Liberty Lodge 521 and went on with his wife to serve as an officer in the Order of the Eastern Star in the capacity as Grand Patron for the State of New York in 1984. Larry is survived by son Alan (Trudy) Unger of Neversink, NY ; daughter Cindy Unger of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Kristen, and Morgan; brother Harold Unger of CA, and brother-in-law Bill (Marylee) Siegle of California. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Frieda, after 54 years of marriage and also by his brothers, Sidney and Milton. Friends may call on Thursday August 20, 2015 from 1 - 2 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St, Liberty, NY. The Revonah Lincoln Kiamesha Chapter #443 Order of the Eastern Star will hold services at 1:15 PM at the funeral home followed by Masonic Services at 1:30 PM. Funeral Services and Military Honors Services will take place at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Rd. Liberty at 2:30 PM.
