Louis F. Barbanera, age 77, of Bethel, NY passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born February 27, 1937 in Manhattan, NY to the late Frank and Angelina Barbanera.
He was also a resident of North Bergen, NJ and Nanuet, NY. Louis served as a Military Police officer in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany where his assignment was to guard the A-Bomb. Upon his completion of military service, Louis served as a firefighter in both North Bergen, NJ and New York City. In the FDNY, Louis was a proud member of Engine 71, or the "War Wagon" as it was called in the South Bronx. During his time as a fireman, Louis also owned a successful hair salon in North Bergen, NJ for more than 30 years, before retiring and moving to Bethel, NY with his wife, Heidi.
Most of all, Lou will be remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman, and for his love of his children and grandchildren. Lou's friends and family remember him as a loving, caring, and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Heidi; his three children, Frank, Dominick, and Joseph; step-daughter, Michelle Lorenzo; three daughters in law, Lysa, Lisa, and Daniele; four grandchildren, Danielle, Louis, Nicholas, and Cody; two sisters, Mary and Diane and two brother's in law, Eugene and Tommy.
A celebration of Louis' life will be held on Sunday, August 24 from 2 - 5 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY 12754. A Military Service is planned for Monday, August 25 at 11 AM, at Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY 12754.
