Obituary of Doris Van Aken

Doris Van Aken, 91, passed away into the arms of the Lord on January 13, 2018 in Johnson City, NY where she resided for the past year to be closer to her family.  She was a resident of Claryville and Liberty for many years.

She was born in Union City, New Jersey to the late William Hoberg and Lena (Bisso) Hoberg.

Doris was married to the late Harold Van Aken, the love of her life.  They were married 69 plus years until he predeceased her in 2015.

Doris was the loving mother of Diana Curry and her husband Donald Curry of Harpursville, NY and Karen Van Aken of Vestal, NY.  She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Scott Curry and his wife Colleen. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill.

She served for many years as a bus driver for the Tri-Valley School District and as a member of the Claryville Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary.

Doris enjoyed nature, gardening and maintaining a beautiful home. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put family first.

Her true passion in life was caring for and guiding those she loved.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Schwalb for his wonderful care and friendship.

In this world everything comes to an end except a mother's love which starts long before we are born and never ends.

A graveside service will be held Friday July 13,2018 at 11 am at Claryville Cemetery.
