Jazmine D. Fuentes
Kauneonga Lake, NY
Jazmine D. Fuentes, 25, of Kauneonga Lake, NY, passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013 at her home. The daughter of Eric Fuentes and Cynthia Fret, she was born on April 26, 1988 in the Bronx.
Jazmine was 24 years young when she was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, also known as pancreatic cancer. In Jazmine's case, the tumor appeared to have metastasized to the liver and she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Jazmine's medical background includes: Pheochromocytoma in 2004. She had been experiencing severe vomiting and weakness upon standing. She was rushed to a nearby emergency room, where she later had a seizure and was transported via helicopter and treated at Westchester Medical Center(Maria Ferelli Children's Hospital), where she underwent an operation to remove the pheos. There are no previous cases of cancer in the family. Jazmine was currently receiving medical treatment from Dr. Kondagunta at Crystal Run in Rock Hill, NY.
Prior to being diagnosed with cancer, Jazmine worked fulltime as a Residential Program Coordinator at the Center for Discovery. She worked closely with individuals living with autism. The social worker aspect of her job duties required frequent communication with each client's family. Jazmine was responsible for NYS regulated reports due on quarterly and an annual basis to ensure each resident receives the appropriate care they need. Jazmine's work entailed her to be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. On her off time, Jazmine attended Penn State University majoring in Neuropsychology. Her experience at work and her personal interests at home intertwined perfectly into a major and possible future career.
Jazmine began chemotherapy in July of 2012. Some of the chemotherapy agents include oxaliplatin and irenotican. Jazmine fought a strong fight, but the chemotherapy results showed little to no progress. Still trying, she gave it three more agents until finally deciding to discontinue treatments. Since then, she has been enrolled in Hospice support and she couldn't have been happier given her circumstances. With the continuous support of family, friends, the Allyson Whitney Foundation and her new found family at Hospice, she felt like life was returning to some sort of normalcy.
Jazmine is survived by her mother and stepfather, Cynthia and Gilberto Davila of Narrowsburg; her father and stepmother Eric and Lisa Fuentes of Westchester; her companion, Donovan Monahan at home; brothers. Justin Davila of Narrowsburg and Jeremy Fuentes of Westchester; sisters, Tiffany Melendez of Narrowsburg and Erica Fuentes of Westchester and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Sunday December 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday December 2, 2013 at St. Joseph's Church, Gale Rd., Mongaup Valley, NY. Burial will follow at the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel, NY.
