Irma "Lee" Manzi
Smallwood, NY
Irma "Lee" Manzi passed away on Monday October 10, 2016 at the age of 88 at Catskill Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was born on September 26, 1928 in Weehawken, NJ to Charles and Harriet Guild Helble.
Lee graduated valedictorian from Union High School in Union, NJ. In 1945, on a family vacation to Swan Lake, NY, she met her future husband, Richard Manzi, and they married in April 1947. She spent much of her life as a homemaker in Smallwood, NY where she raised five children and was surrounded by a fun-loving family. Lee worked for many years at the Program Dept. at Monticello Raceway as well as the Recovery Center in Monticello, NY. Her passion was doing volunteer work, as she was always willing to give a hand and help someone. She volunteered right up until the end at the Literacy Center in Monticello and the Shepherd Food Pantry in White Lake, NY.
Lee was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Mongaup Valley. She had been a member of Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corps and had served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Smallwood- Mongaup Valley Fire Commissioners and was a member of the Bethelites.
She leaves behind her five children, Kathy Sturm (Sam) of Jeffersonville, Richard Manzi (Yna) of Liberty, James Manzi (Lena) of Denver, CO, George Manzi (Ann) of Liberty and Terri Colaianni (Tim) of Mongaup Valley; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Richard Manzi, her parents, her sister Betty Daley and her first born child who was born and died in 1948.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lane, NY. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mongaup Valley, NY. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery where Lee will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
