Obituary
Ethel Mary Ippolito
Larchmont, NY formerly of Liberty, NY
On Thursday, November 12, 2015, Ethel Mary Ippolito of Larchmont, New York passed away surrounded by her loving family after a five year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born on May 9, 1933, the eldest daughter of Gladys Veronica Roosa and Anthony DeFilippi, she resided the majority of her life in Liberty, New York.
A graduate of St. Peter's Elementary and Liberty High School, Ethel decided after working in Stickel's Pharmacy during high school to attend St. John's University in Brooklyn, NY to study Pharmacology until marrying her lifelong love Steven Joseph Ippolito on June 26, 1954. Together they spent 43 years, raising their three children, which they considered their greatest accomplishments in life. Ethel prided herself in being a homemaker and mother. Later in life, she became involved in the Lady's Aid of Claryville, NY and enjoyed the time she spent with her friends quilting, recipe swapping and performing volunteer work.
After the children had grown and started their own lives, Ethel became a Certified Religious Education Teacher through the Diocese of NY; attending classes at Dunwoodie Seminary in Yonkers, NY while her husband Steven obtained his Deaconate. After completion of her courses, she returned to her Alma Mater, St. Peter's, to guide her students through the sacraments in the Roman Catholic Religion for the next 25 years; finally teaching a fifth grade in addition to Religious Education before her retirement in 2001. Upon retirement, Ethel moved to Guilderland, NY where she resided for 12 years to assist in raising her grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew, who brought the greatest joy to her life during that time.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Steven and dear friends Marianne Reed, Lowell Heffley and Timothy Stoddard. She is survived by her sisters, Rosemary Osborn of Pine Bush, NY and Jeanette Kurtz of Baton Rouge, LA; her children, Mary Elizabeth (Michael Winston) of Ithaca, NY, Kathrin Ann of Buffalo, NY, Joseph Steven (Kirsten Steinfeldt) of Voorheesville, NY and devoted son-in-law, Peter Carchedi of Sauquoit, NY; her four grandchildren, Brian Aldrich Carchedi of New York City, Adam Edward Carchedi of Portland, OR, Nicholas Steven and Andrew Richard Ippolito both of Vorheesville, NY and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Sara Neuman Jewish Home; No Place Like Home of The Wartburg and Jansen Hospice and especially Ethel's Home Health Care Aide, Maureen Creary, for their continued and loving care during this difficult time.
The Ippolito family will receive friends on Sat. Nov. 21, 2015 from 10 AM to 11:15 AM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty. Her funeral mass will be at 11:30 AM at St. Peter's Church in Liberty, NY. Burial will follow the mass in St. Peter's Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Memorial contributions to God's Love We Deliver, 166 Ave. of the Americas, NY, NY 10013 in Ethel's name would be appreciated. This is an organization that serves NYC and the Boroughs by providing meals to those with life-altering illnesses.
