Marvin (Nuggie) Weiss, a lifetime area resident, died on Thursday November 22, 2012 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
The son of the late William and Margaret (Stewart) Weiss, he was born on June 13, 1933 in Kauneonga Lake, NY.
He is survived by his cherished family who meant the world to him and who will miss him dearly; two sons, Walter of Atlanta, GA and Randy and his wife Penni of Stoutland, MO; two daughters, Debbie and Laurie, both of White Lake, NY; three grandsons, Randy Jr. and his wife Christina in the USMC at Camp Lejeune, NC, Keith and his wife Cindy of Diamond, MO and Timothy of Columbia, MO; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Helaina, Daniel, Sarah and Dakota; sisters-in-law, Madalyn Weiss of Kauneonga Lake and Barbara Weiss of Mongaup Valley and Ruth Dailey of Lake Huntington, NY; brother-in-law Richard Dailey of Cochecton as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving dogs Precious and Odie and his cats Friskie and Rascal as well as his beloved woodland friends.
He cared for many homes in White Lake Estates and in Smallwood for over 40 years and many homeowners became not only friends but family. He especially cherished his friendship with DeeBee and Barry Kula, Kathy and Shelley Knepper, Larry and Cindy Walder and Steve Silverman. They were always there for him and our family and we sincerely thank them. So many people in the community embraced him and supported him throughout all the ups and downs in his life. There are too many to mention!
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lillie in Sept. 2007 and by his two brothers, Norman in Sept. 2010 and Roland in Oct. 2011.
He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War Era from Sept. 1953 to Oct. 1955. He was stationed in Germany and earned the German Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member and Past Commander of the Sgt. Andrew Brucher VFW Post #5499 in White Lake, NY. He was so proud to be an ACTIVE member of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Dept. for over 61 years, where he served as Past Chief, President and Secretary. He loved his fellow firefighters! He also was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Kauneonga Lake.
He loved his family and fellowship with so many friends. He loved serving the community and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 25, 2012 from 6 - 9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY. Kauneonga Lake Fire Dept. will hold services at 7:30 PM and Sgt. Andrew Brucher Post #5499- VFW will hold services at 8 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be on Monday November 26, 2012 at 10 AM at Ramsay's Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, RT 17B, Bethel, NY.
