"A Time to be Born, A Time to Die, A Time to Plant and a Time to Pluck up that which is planted." Ecclesiastes 3:2
Ruby Mae Wittrell Hunter, the seventh child of the late Mathais and Lucille Brown Wittrell, born on April 15, 1941 in Charleston, SC, entered into God's Kingdom on December 23, 2012 in Liberty, NY.
At an early age, she attended Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Charleston, SC under the leadership of Rev. Robert Deas. After moving to New York, she became affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church in Ferndale, NY under the leadership of Rev. Willie Smith. The Lord still had work for her to do, so she became a Jehovah's Witness for the Lord and spread the good news about God.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late George Arthur Hunter. She was a child of God, she was a loyal wife, a devoted mother and she loved her family. To this marriage, two children were born. Survivors include daughter, Jacqueline Hunter of Liberty; son, George Hunter Jr. and his companion Erica Salzman of Monticello; three precious grandchildren, Marcus Aaron, Ayanna Maria and Little Rose Hunter; a great-grandson, Darius Hunter; two special nieces, Viola B. Wilson and Maria B. White, both of Charleston, SC; three brothers, Elijah Wittrell, Leroy Wittrell and wife AnnaLee, all of Charleston, SC and James Wittrell and wife Gloria of Seattle, WA; five sisters, Annabell Benson, Marie Middleton and husband James, Lucille Nelson and husband Julius, Martha Ann Brown and husband Abraham and Albertha Wittrell, all of Charleston, SC. She also leaves to cherish her memories a devoted aunt, Albertha Johnson and cousin, Martha Mitchell, both of Charleston SC and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn (Dan) Lowry and a brother, Samuel (Ruth) Wittrell.
To My Children, Grandchildren, Great-grandchild, Brothers, Sisters and Loving Family:
When I must leave you for a little while --
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
and hug your sorrow to you through the years,
But start out bravely with a gallant smile:
And for my sake and in my name
live on and do all things the same,
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky.
