John L. Bridges, a longtime Liberty resident, passed away on Tuesday February 28, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66 years of age. Born on May 8, 1950 in Tipton, Georgia, he was the son of the late John and Marie Byrd Bridges.
John was retired from his position as Director of Sullivan County Veterans Agency in Monticello, NY. He was a US Army Veteran, having service from 1969 to 1971 and from 1980 to 1984 - his last assignment was at West Point. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Liberty VFW Post # 9217 and the National Assn. of County Veterans Service Officers.
John is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Covington of Monticello and Brenda Bowman and her husband Douglas of Liberty; two brothers, Aundri and Nicci Bridges, both of Liberty; a daughter, Sonya Hamilton of Liberty; two Goddaughters, Nichole Anders and Jennifer Irby and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Earnestine Bridges, a sister, Mary Carney and brothers, Charles Wynn and Benjamin Bridges.
Visiting hours are on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty, NY. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8 at 11 AM at Ramsay's Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Graves officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Rd. Liberty, NY.
