Obituary of Ann Miller
Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Celebrating the life of Annie Pearl Miller, born Annie Pearl Jemison, on June 5, 1944, in Mulga, Alabama, the fifth child of the late Lathan and Maggie Jemison. Growing up in the Edgewater, Annie was fondly called “Peewee” because of her small stature and quiet, gentle nature. Even though “tiny” in stature, Annie had a tremendously large heart and a great capacity to love others. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Annie believed in God and loved Him faithfully. Growing up in Alabama, she confessed Christ at an early age, and joined St. John Baptist Church where she attended regularly. She was diligent in studying God’s word and read his word daily. She lived her life as God commanded us to, “Love ye one another.” Upon moving to Spring Valley, NY, she attended First Baptist Church, but later joined Pilgrim Baptist Church where she served loyally as the Pastor’s aide.
Annie had strong convictions regarding education and was very supportive of anyone who showed an interest in pursuing a higher education. She graduated from Westfield High School in Alabama and later achieved a certificate of nutrition at Cornell University. She worked at The West Street Day Care Center in Spring Valley as an Executive Director and she volunteered as a leader for the Girl Scouts for many years.
She met and married Freddie J. Miller, her high school sweetheart, which had stood the test of time for 53 years. Annie and Freddie were blessed with two wonderful children, Barbara Renée and Marvin James. Annie was very active in raising her children and grandchildren until illness slowed her down. She leaves behind a husband, daughter, son, daughter-in-law and seven grandchildren: Diana Alexis, Melia Centeno, Ashley Nieves, Dyonishia, Matthew, Khalani, and Nayila Miller and 6 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters: Ora Pearl Reed, Iola Foy, and Betty Jackson; four sister-in-laws: Maple Miller, Edna Collins, Virginia Hunter and Ideal Shaw; five brother-in-laws: Ernie, Calvin, Robert, James and Lemroy Miller; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 11am-12pm at Shiloh Baptist Church, 60 Berme Rd, Ellenville, NY 12428. Rev. Julius A. Collins officiating. Interment to follow at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, NY.
