Dear Cheryl, Christina, Renee and entire Portzline-Marion family,
I was saddened to hear that Jim has passed away. What a wonderful, generous, knowledgeable guy. I remember how kind Jim and all of you were to me back about 30+ years ago when Jim was good enough to hire me to the seasonal Outdoor Environmental Ed staff at Frost Valley. I remember Jim in beekeeping garb, boiling down the maple sap (collecting sap buckets!) and telling great stories. Jim was so helpful to me personally with college course advice and Kindness even when I went off to another OE center to work. Most of all I remember what a great big brother Jim was to Foster. How lucky you all were to have him in your lives. I will be thinking of you all.
Sincerely,
Mary Webster Thomas
Dear Marion Family,
Pam and I were greatly saddened to hear of your recent loss. I didn't know Jim well but what I did know of him sitting across on opposite sides of a table during labor negotiations, spoke volumes about his decency and integrity. Moreover, the worth of a person can also be measured by the quality of his or her children. And the excellent qualities of Jim and Cheryl are clearly evident in the excellence of Renee and Christina. Knowing them as students, it was obvious they were raised with kindness, love, and a desire to do the right thing. We are sure those very same attributes will continue into the next generation and beyond through Nathaniel. Please accept our sincerest condolences.

Jim was a wonderful guy, full of energy, enthusiasm, smarts, and fun. I worked with him at John Burroughs Woodchuck Lodge, and missed him when he left the board.
He spoke of you, Cheryl, all the time.
Please accept my sympathy, thoughts, and prayers.
Dear Cheryl;
Please accept my condolences. I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing and your loss. To this day, with his commitment to composting and recycling, Jim stands as a mentor for me and others. It is a tremendous honor that you both let me into your lives professionally. I think of you fondly. Thank you for that.
Sincerely,
Susan McIntyre

Was there ever a man with a bigger heart? I don't think so. He was my mentor, boss, neighbor, and friend. In all the years I knew Jim, I never heard him say an unkind word. The world is a more positive place for his having been in it. my thoughts are with his family.
Cheryl,
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Jim was one in a million and I am truly going to miss his quick-wit, humble sense of accomplishment and genuine good nature. I knew I liked Jim from the second I met him. It seems so special that a friendship like ours evolved from something as simple as "lunch with Cheryl," to "going fishing with Jim." But then again, maybe not... Jim had that way with people, an undeniable magnetism about himself and everything he did.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Fondly,
Ryan
