John Di Milia, 81 passed peacefully into eternal life on March 18, 2015 at home with his adoring children by his side.
John is now reunited with his loving wife of 54years, Grace Castellano Di Milia,, who predeceased him in death in 2010. John was a devoted member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne, NY.
He was born on April 4, 1933 to Pietro and Jennie Bortone Di Milia in Brooklyn, NY.
John was an extraordinary salesman, working in the greater New York area for General Mills, Durkee Foods and then retiring from Pillsbury. In 1970, John and his family moved from Brooklyn to Claryville, NY; where he and his brother-in-law Frank Englese purchased and successfully operated the Claryville General Store until 1976. John actively served his community as a member of the Claryville Volunteer Fire Department as Fireman and Commissioner. John was fondly referred to as “The Mayor” of Claryville. John was also a past member of the Tri-Valley Central School Board of Education, the Town of Neversink Parks and Recreation, and the Grahamsville Chapter of AARP, where he served as President.
All those who had the pleasure of knowing John will fondly remember his great sense of humor and animated storytelling, leaving all with a smile. John is survived by his daughter Janet Milner and her husband Al of Throop PA., his son Peter Di Milia and his wife Michelle of Claryville. John was a loving and adoring grandfather, so proud of his grandchildren; Albert and John Milner; Peter Rocco and Mareena Di Milia, his brothers Dominick and his wife Jean, of Homassas, Fl. and Peter of Los Angeles, CA., also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by his sister Lucy Muzio
John’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to his nurses, Adria and Mary, from Hospice who’s love, support and compassion enabled us to care for Dad at home.
Memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stoney Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or charity of one’s own choice.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 2-4:00 & 7-9:00 pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, N.Y. A Firematic service will be Friday evening at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father John J. Lynch, on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00am at The Church of The Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne, NY. Interment will take place at Claryville Cemetery in the spring.
