Obituary of Joseph David Murray, Jr.
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph David Murray, Jr AKA "Junior." of Hurleyville, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at his daughter's home surrounded by his family. He was 86.
He was the son of the late Joseph David Murray, Sr. and Gertrude Marion DeBiasa, born on November 15, 1931 in Ellenville, NY.
Junior was born in Ellenville, NY but was raised in Fallsburg and spent most of his life locally. He left school at a young age to help support his mother and sister, this is when he started his career in the trucking business. He worked his entire life from behind a steering wheel always in a large truck including when he helped build the Neversink Reservoir and then he finally retired at the age of 74 from Miron Ready Mix in Liberty, NY. He wore a lot of hats, and could teach you how to do many different odd jobs. He was incredibly talented with his hands, being a craftsman of sorts, he knew how to "supe up" all sorts of mechanics, making the ordinary the extraordinary with his true "redneck ingenuity". He was a very honest man that never lied and would never accept a lie being told to him, a true straight shooter who said what he meant and nothing less. He truly loved his friends and family and kept his relationships for a lifetime.
He is survived by his children: Robert L., Joseph D. III, Charles E., Matthew J. Murray, CindiJo A. Miller, Theila J. Lorino and Jeneva M. Greffrath; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his sister Alice Murden. He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years Cyntha Iryne Wallace and their son David E. Murray.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 11a to 1p at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. Burial will follow at Hurleyville Cemetery.
