Mrs. Odell Lewis, 91, of Ellenville, NY, departed this life Sunday, December 25, 2016.
She was born on March 5, 1925, in Wilson County, NC to Andrew and Lula McCoy Townsend. She married Anthony Lawrence Lewis.
Odell worked as a seamstress in New York before moving to Ellenville and continuing to work for Schrade Cutlery. She enjoyed sewing and often made clothes for herself and family. She also enjoyed making quilts for others. She played a huge role serving bagged groceries in the community. She is known by many as Big Mama especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a dedicated member to the Ellenville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Odell was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter Barbara Stone.
She leaves fond memories to her step children: Denise Lewis McKelvey of New Haven, CT and Anthony Lewis of Centreville, VA; grandchildren: Satira Hill of Somers Point, NJ, Timothy Stone of Ellenville, Lamont Stone of Wilmington, NC, Shari Heaven of Pfafftown, NC and Anthony Lewis of MD; her great-grandchildren; and her church family as well as a host of relative and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11am on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ellenville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 161 Clinton Ave, Ellenville, NY 12428. A funeral service will follow at 11am at the church. Burial will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, NY.
