Herman W. Probst of Grahamsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at home. He was 87. He was the son of the late Herman H. and Catherine Schnieder Probst, born on August 22, 1927 in Islip, NY Herman served his country in the U.S. Army and the Navy during WWII He was a supervisor of the steam laundry department in Woodbourne Correctional Facility until his retirement. After which he began driving buses for Gershowitz Bus Company. He was a past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge # 521 F&AM . He dedicated 50 years to the Grahamsville Fire Department as a Firemen, he was an honorary member of the Grahamsville First Aid and Rescue. Lastly, he was a member of the Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association. He is survived by his loving daughter Lynn Osterhout, his grandchildren Jenifer R. Edwards and her husband Joseph of Liberty, Benjamin Osterhout and his wife Joelene of Palm Coast, Fl., and Andrew Osterhout of Hurleyville, three great grandchildren Sebastian, Rayne, and Jeremy and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Marian Probst, son-in-law Thomas Osterhout, and his brother William Probst. A memorial service will he be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Herman's name can be made to the Grahamsville Volunteer Fire Department, 205 Main Street, Grahamsville NY 12740.
