Obituary of Rachel M Houghtaling

Rachel May Houghtaling, 28, of Liberty, NY, passed away on January, 1, 2020 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill, NY. Rachel was born on May 8th, 1991 in Binghamton, NY, the daughter of the late Lyle Kenneth Houghtaling and Deborah Lee Babcock Houghtaling. She was also predeceased by paternal grandparents Arnold and Beverly Houghtaling, maternal grandparents Wilbur and Dolores Babcock, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Rachel attended Delaware Valley Central Elementary School, Sullivan West Schools and SUNY Sullivan County Community College. Rachel grew up in Long Eddy (Rock Valley) NY. She loved basketball, softball and found pure joy in all sports and the outdoors, and could often be found swimming in the river. Rachel was a very outgoing and loving person with a zest for life and love for music, as well as for any person she met. Rachel is survived by one brother, Jacob Houghtaling of Florida, one sister, Shanna Houghtaling, of Long Eddy, NY, two nephews, Ayden and Cameron Dix, several aunts, uncles and cousins, and two close friends, Laura Kalina and Christine Friess. Rachel also leaves behind her loving canine companion "Jasper". Memorial contributions can be made to the family, and a donation will be made to St. Jude's Cancer Hospital in Rachel's name. For anyone wishing to pay their respects or celebrate Rachel's life, there will be two opportunities to do so. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Colonial Ramsay Funeral Home, 275 S. Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754. A celebration of life for Rachel's family and friends will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1-4 pm at the Long Eddy Firehouse, 4 Church Street, Long Eddy, NY 12760.
