Obituary of Mary Ann Dauch
On Sunday, April 12, 2020, Mary Ann Dauch, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away peacefully at her home. She was 86 years old.
Mary Ann was born on December 6, 1933 in Carbondale, PA to John and Teresa (Martin) Hofsommer. She graduated High School in Carbondale, PA in 1951. On February 16, 1956, she was married to Alton C. Dauch. They raised two sons, David and C. Alton, and one daughter, Dawn.
Mary Ann had a passion for crocheting, especially American flags. She crocheted American flags for 40 years and donated them to various VFW and other organizations around the United States. Mary Ann was a member and treasurer of VFW 5499 for 50 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Monticello, NY and an ordained minister. Mary Ann worked for Monticello Central School as a bus driver from 1971 to 1982, and she drove the first special needs bus in Sullivan County, NY. Mary Ann was an advocate for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in loving memory of her son, David. She was a teacher’s aide at Sullivan County BOCES from 1991 to 2000. Mary Ann was known for her bold nature, caring heart and God-loving personality.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, John, and her mother, Teresa, her loving husband, Alton, and two sons, David and C. Alton, her brothers, John and William Hofsommer, and her sister, Marie Hofsommer. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn McAdams, her brother Joseph Hofsommer and her sister, Patricia Dauch, her granddaughters, Megan Lawson and Colleen McAdams, and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
