Obituary of Dora Rodriguez

Please share a memory of Dora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dora Rodriguez was a remarkable woman. Her story began in Puerto Rico in 1939. As a child, Dora always put her family first. She helped raise her brothers and sisters while her parents strived to create a better life for their children in America. In 1952, Dora moved to Brooklyn, NY with her family and began a new chapter in her life.

Dora met her beloved husband Joseph Rodriguez when she was a teenager – beginning their happily ever after. They started a family while simultaneously helping other families in need. Dora was always devoted to the lord and to helping others. Her home in Brooklyn served as an emergency foster care house for the city of New York. She opened her home to many children at any hour of the night and provided them with love and a new start in life.

Dora was a determined, hardworking woman who always sought to expand her knowledge while helping others. She earned her first degree in culinary arts in New York City.

Dora was a student of life and grasped every opportunity to learn something new. She loved the beauty found in nature and strived to learn as much as she can about plants and their medicinal properties. She became an expert in herbal medicine and used that knowledge to help her friends and family. Later in life, she began to study social work and mental health, eventually earning an associates degree in mental health from Sullivan  County College.

Her devotion to her family and selfless character was always apparent as she continued to help those in need throughout her lifetime. Dora adopted her two grandchildren and gave them a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and great memories.

61 years of marriage, 8 kids, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren later, the Rodriguez family tree grew and continues growing today.

Dora Rodriguez will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, knowledge of plants and herbs, willingness to help others, and devotion to the church and her family. We will carry the memories of her in our hearts. May she rest in the sweetest peace.
