Obituary of Joseph Korchanik
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Korchanik, of Mountaindale, passed away on January 10, 2021. He was 67.
Joseph was born in New York City on March 5, 1953 to Joseph and Jozefina Korchanik. A talented carpenter, he was the owner of JK Construction for more than 30 years where he worked alongside his good friend, Palo Kajanek. He was active in the community and generous with his time and resources. He served as the President of the Mountaindale Fire Department and was an Honorary Member the last few years of his life as well as a member of the Slovak Country Club. He was also a member of the Sandbar Valley Fish and Game Association for many years. Joe was a very talented painter. Affectionately called “Joe-Van-Gogh”, he painted countless works of art for his family, friends, and anyone with whom he came into contact. He genuinely loved seeing someone’s happiness from one of his paintings. He was a kindhearted man who supported St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the local SPCA, Humane Society, and CARE of Sullivan County, where he obtained his beloved dog, Tyson. He received so much love and support over the years from his family, friends and community and returned that love with all of his heart. He was genuinely blessed.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Vicki and her husband Soria; his beloved dog, Tyson; his sister, Millie Healy (Korchanik) and her husband Tom; his "sister" from another mother Maryann Gajdos; his nieces, Jennifer Hulse (Korchanik) and her husband Preston, Karolina and Samantha Healy, and his great-nieces and nephew Lauren, Mikaila, and PJ. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Bert and his brother, John Korchanik.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be offered to the Mountaindale Fire Department, PO Box 49, Mountaindale, NY 12763.
