Harry Jefferson departed from this world on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the age of 83.
Born and raised in Newburgh, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marion Jefferson.
He was a proud United States Marine and longtime owner of Harry’s Salvage Yard in Woodridge, where he has lived for the last 40 years.
One of 18 children, he is survived by relatives near and far, including his wife of 44 years Ann Winters Jefferson, his daughter Audrey Jefferson-Subeh and her husband Minwer Subeh, his sons John and Tommy Jefferson and his daughter Dr. Eileen Jefferson, as well as four grandchildren Catherine Dean, Meghan Jefferson, Alisson Jefferson and Derek Subeh, his brother Arthur Jefferson of Walden and nephew Arthur Jefferson, Jr. also of Walden.
Harry had wide-ranging and mostly self-taught abilities in welding, car mechanics, and carpentry. He was formerly head maintenance man at St. Peter’s School in Liberty as well as an usher at Immaculate Conception Church in Woodbourne. He was also known for his skill in playing pool, his love of his animals, especially his junkyard horse Dodger; and classic country music, and most of all for his grit and sense of humor.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 29th from 4-6 pm and 7-9 pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 30th, 11 a.m. at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne. He will be laid to rest in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. Guidelines set forth by the State of New York will be followed, masks and social distancing are required at all times.
