Obituary of Ellen Neier

Ellen Neier, 68 of the Arc Greater Hudson Valley, NY (formally known as Sullivan ARC) East Dillon Residence peacefully passed away on Saturday March 27, 2021 at home.

Born on May 22, 1952 in Bronx, NY, she loved the song Happy Birthday and took great joy when staff sang it to her whether it was her birthday or not, relaxing at home and being in the company of her friends and others who cared for her. Ellen was particularly fond of baby dolls and would often be found rocking her babies back and forth. She enjoyed having visitors, especially those she hadn't seen in a while. Though Ellen was not able to speak in the traditional manner, she spoke volumes with her smiles, sometimes her screams, and often would say "Mama".

Ellen leaves behind many friends from her home and day program. Her ARC and Guardianship family will sorely miss her.

On behalf of Ellen, the following excerpt from the poem "I'm Free" is offered.

"If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes, these things I too will miss."

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will follow immediately at the funeral home. Cantor Devorah Gartner will officiate. Burial will follow at B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Glen Wild, NY. Guidelines set forth by the State of New York will be followed, masks and social distancing are required at all times.
