Dorothy Cornelia Hudson Fields of South Fallsburg, New York was born January 29, 1938 in Uniontown Alabama to Mr. Joseph Melvin Hudson and Lena Jones Hudson. She was well known as "Dot" and "Joe Hudson's Baby".
Dorothy was the baby of fifteen siblings and predeceased by thirteen sisters and brothers. On April 30, 2021, God with His tender mercy called her from suffering to eternal life. She was 83.
At an early age, Dorothy accepted Christ as her personal Savior and attended Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Ninth District in Uniontown, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Perry County Training School in Uniontown, Alabama.
Dorothy was married to the late Landell Fields whom she met in childhood. After completing her education, she married her sweetheart Landell Fields. The two were inseparable, teammates and close friends. Dorothy was married to her husband for sixty-five years. She performed various occupations and was active in her church and community.
Dorothy loved and inspired all people and was a second mother to many. She was loved by countless children and served as board member on behalf of the Center for Fallsburg Youth. She also performed responsibilities for the Senior Legislative Action Committee of Sullivan County (SLAC) and Community Action Committee to help the Economy (CACHE).
Dorothy was a faithful and devoted servant of First Baptist Church of South Fallsburg, New York. She served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Trustee Co-Chair, choir member and President of the Women's Dept. for Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Association.
Dorothy was the first African American Postmistress of Sullivan County and served thirty-years. She received honors in 2008, by the Sullivan County Chapter of the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History (ASALH). Dorothy received the 26th Annual Frederick Douglass Award for her inspiring motivational speech emancipating all people, through the power of education, leadership, dream building and reality making.
In childhood, Dorothy enjoyed tap dancing and as an adult, she relished cooking appetizing, delectable, tasty meals while sharing her home and food with family, friends and strangers. Among her numerous traveling adventures, the "Holy Land" was one of her favorites. Dorothy always made time for God and her community. She was a beautiful sweet angel and was loved by so many people of all races, creed and nationalities. She would sing one of her favorite hymns "Savior like a Shepherd Lead Us". Dorothy was one of God's leader, dream-builder, and reality maker. She inspired all that she loved to be leaders, dream-builders and reality makers.
To cherish her memory, Dorothy leaves Sidney Hudson her big brother but known as (Lil Brother) of East Chicago, Indiana; two devoted nieces, Deborah Quinn of Rosenberg, Texas; Joan Burch of Pleasant Grove, Alabama. On Goddaughter Nikita Tinsley (Ryan) of Syracuse, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at First Baptist Church of South Fallsburg, Main Street, South Fallsburg, NY. A funeral service will begin at 1pm at the church. Burial will follow at Old Falls Cemtery. Guidelines set forth by the State of New York will be followed, masks and social distancing are required at all times.
