Obituary of Bernard H. Davis

Bernard H. “Ben” Davis, of Monticello, NY, entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2021.  He was 68.

Ben was born on September 7, 1953 in Evanston, Illinois to Hubert Davis and Jessie Redmond Davis. He devoted most of his life in service to his country and community through military service and law enforcement.  Ben retired from the U.S. Army Military Police, and also served in a highly specialized capacity as a K-9 Officer for City of Newburgh Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and Village of Ellenville Police.  Ben remained actively committed to his community and church, offering his time and talent by serving in Mission Ministry at New Beginnings Community Worship Church in Liberty, B.A.T.S. House (Begin Again Transitional Services for Veterans), the Police Association, and Action Toward Independence, a canine training program for disabled veterans. At the time of his passing, he was a Deacon in training under the guidance of Rev. Norman Graves. Ben was also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He was a member of the Woods Pond Rod and Gun Club and Travis Archery.  He lived a full life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ben is survived by Irene Kearsing Davis, his loving wife of 30 years whom he married on September 20, 1991; his children, Pamela Davis-Acey and her husband, Gary of Montour Falls, NY; Michael DiViesti and his partner, Malcolm Randig, of Taylor, TX; Rebecca Davis of Ithaca, NY; Keri Davis-Romero and her husband, Ramon of Walden, NY; Kristi Miller and her husband, Jeffrey, of Middletown, NY; Anthony DiViesti and his partners Danielle DiVesti and Rebecca Carpenter of Fredericksburg, VA; and Ben Davis of Middletown, NY; his grandchildren Phoenix, Seth, Lennox, Matthew, Tessa, Maxxon, Oliver, and Anthony, Jr.; niece Heather Davis, and nephew Hubert Davis. 

He was predeceased by his parents Jessie and Hubert, and siblings John, and Brenda.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 2-4 pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne, NY, with a funeral service at 4 pm officiated by Rev. Norman Graves.  Social distancing guidelines will be in place; masks must be worn at all times.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ben’s name may be offered to:  New Beginnings Community Worship, 18 Long Drive, Liberty, NY 12754.
