Obituary of Virginia Elmore Hardenbergh-Rexford

Virginia E. Rexford, affectionately known as “Ginny”, age 88, of Hasbrouck, NY, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 4^th, 2022. On June 16^th, Ginny would have turned 89 years old.

She was the daughter of Frank and Sadie Hardenbergh; the farmer’s daughter, who didn’t take well to hay or heat. Due to this, she planted her feet in the kitchen, where she would learn to cook and bake.

She attended nursing school in Glen Gove, Long Island and worked for many years at Loomis Hospital in Liberty, NY; where her Sister Beatrice also worked as a nurse.

Ginny often said she was the last one standing. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo N. Rexford, II; sons, Leo N. Rexford, III, John Rexford; and her daughter, Francine Rexford Hornbeck Fleming.

Ginny is survived by her many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; in addition to her beloved nieces and nephews. They will remember her best for her Christmas cookies, perfectly crocheted treasures, her witty one-liners, her sense of style, her devilish laugh, her love of Sunday football, shrimp of any kind, a good cheeseburger, her precious Bichon Frise pups, and of course, how she always had a really good novel in hand.

The family is appreciative of the staff at Achieve Re-Hab and Nursing who cared for Ginny, day in and day out, for the final year of her long and beautiful life.

A private graveside service will be held on April 3, 2022; followed by a gathering of immediate family.
