Obituary of Michael P. Stubits
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael P. Stubits, of Liberty, passed away on April 6, 2022. He was 67.
He was the son of Frank and Mary Stubits, born on May 14, 1954 in Liberty, NY.
Michael was an avid and graceful fly-fisherman, an outdoorsman, and all around lovable person. His charismatic personality was beyond infectious, and so too was his vibrant laughter. Michael loved animals, all animals, and couldn't bare to see them suffer. At one point in his life he even raised an injured bear cub "Biscotti" whom remained his companion for over the next 10 years. He cared for three generations of Biscotti's bear cubs, along with a wide range of animals that would take a residence on his property.
Infinitely talented, Michael was renowned for artistic abilities that ranged from ice sculptures, carpentry, masonry, stone work and fly tying. He was also a culinary expert, where he made his career. Always volunteering his time, and never asking for anything in return is how he will be remembered by many.
Michael expressed his love through feeding people, and feeding many people is what he did. Chef Mike worked for over 20 years at The Recovery Center in Monticello, where he was highly revered, and greatly loved.
Michael is survived by his son Jeffrey A. Stubits and daughter Amy J. Lico (Joe Lico), his brother John Stubits (Susan), sister Elizabeth M. Stubits, nieces Barbara Merton (Greg) and Elizabeth A. Stubits (Mike Merton) and great niece Melanie Merton and great nephew Joey Merton. He now joins in Heaven his father Frank who passed away August 5, 2010 and mother Mary who passed away April 2, 2022.
