it seems that Richard's passing makes me the patriarch of the Sherman/Ravenal family. As a child, I remember Richard fondly, from his years in New Rochelle, NY, and Providence, RI, although it was never what one would call a close family relationship. I remember visiting him (with my parents) when he was in college in Baltimore in 1948. The occasion was a football game between the Naval Academy and the University of Missouri (my Dad's alma mater). I remember having dinner with him and his wife, Deborah, a couple of times in 1961 in New York City, where I discovered that they lived next door to where the dental school that I attended was located. The last time that I saw him was at his mother's (my Aunt Mildred) funeral in Providence in 1975. I wrote a letter to him in Livingston Manor a few years ago, but never received a return response. I would have liked to have had a closer relationship with him, as I had developed a closer one with his brother, Cappy, and with his nephew and nieces, during the past 30 or so years. May he rest in peace.
