George's technical skill at his profession made him our first choice for numerous surveys. His easy manner and knowledge of the history of community places kept us wanting to know more, both about the places and the man. We're very sorry for your loss.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with George on the Dollar General in downtown Manor, he was a consummate professional and wise beyond his years. I still have a small sample of his barbed wire collection he gave me when he and Shirley had me over for dinner at their house. Being away from home for that long and George and Shirley taking me in like one of thier own is the best memory I have of George, rest in peace friend. Shirley, you know if there is anything we can do for your we will, just reach out and we'll be there.

On behalf of the family of Delbert Van Etten, I would like to extend our condolences to the family on George's passing. My father had often spoke of George and no wonder -- they shared so much in common! Fellow surveyors, post card collectors, a shared love of the local county history.

George was known for his generosity, his caring, his expertise and his warmth. (Having grown up down the road from Bertha Bernhardt, to whom I'm related, I understand why he turned out the way he did!) His firm but gentle nature is one to which I aspire, and as a result, he was truly beloved by his community. A legend has passed, but his incredible example will remain in my mind and many others' in the years to come, and that's the most valuable legacy anyone can give. To his wife Shirley, children Julie and Bruce, and the rest of his family, my deep condolences - and my deep envy, for you all had the chance to know and love this special man better than anyone else.

Dear Shirley:
Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and family at the passing of George. He was a long time friend of Martin and our family. An excellent Surveyor, George walked the lines of thousands of acres of property over the years. He was a kind, cordial and a gentleman. As a long time and active member of our community, he will be greatly missed.

I am sure most of Sullivan County has George's signature on their survey. He was really happy to be doing ours as it put to rest a dispute with a neighbor about a corner. He loved what he was doing!
We will miss him at Peck's and waving at him as he mowed on the lawn tractor at Waterwheel Junction.
And we still think of him EVERY time we go to our big garden as one of his barbed wire stars is mounted on the door to it. Yes, Shirley he will be remembered in the stars! Love, Kate and Charles

Dear Shirley and family, my thoughts are with you. Such a shocking loss. There are no words. Know that I care and hope that the best memories of George will give you the strength he would want you to have right now. I noticed that his birthday was on September 2 , also mine.
Lord be with you, Shirley.

So many years of being neighbors and friends. I am reminded of all the times “Mr. Fulton” would plow us out after a storm or check on our house when mom and dad were traveling. A quiet visionary and amazing community pillar. Love from the Fergusons.
