My sincere condolences to her family at this time of loss. She was my kindergarten teacher and Woodbourne neighbor. I loved her then and still today. She was an awesome lady and will be sorely missed.

I met Connie 55 years ago. It was my first year teaching and she & I became neighbors on the BCES kindergarten wing. Before autumn leaves fell that school year, Connie was my mentor, adopted mom and forever friend.
Connie was a lifelong learner. Whatever she wanted to do, she took on, bringing many of those around her along with her. Our classrooms filled with adapted, repaired, redesigned, reinvented equipment & teaching activities. Her folded paper grasshopper was genius and made me laugh every year I pulled out the insect unit. My house also filled with Connie - a refinished kitchen hutch reclaimed from the attic, re-caned oak chairs, a semi upholstered cedar chest - they all live to this day. That I did these projects myself with Connie’s tutelage, is a source of pride. Christmas never begins until the angel mobile Connie gifted me is hung. My walls have Connie’s artistic fabric hangings & my feet get warmed under her friendship guilt. The first quilt she presented me was a tiny blue pieced quilt for my dollhouse. My recipe file is packed with Stangel recipes - from pecan puffs to her version of a deconstructed chicken cordon bleu.
Connie’s love and support through some painful days & her honesty and guidance as change rocked my life was always a strength I leaned into these 55 years of our friendship. She was there for me no matter what.
Connie remains here with me every day. My heart is full of gratitude that Connie entered my life. Chris, David, Peter, Jim, your mom sent ripples out into the world & touched others. It was her “mission” in life to make others better. She touched so many and I am certain she will continue to spread her generosity even further. My sympathy & love to you and your families. Carol, there are no words to really explain how much you meant to our Mother. You, Ruth, and Mary Dixon were the '4 Muskateers' when it came to kindergarten creativity and influence on students. She never ever felt that helping others was a chore, nor was she ever afraid to give advice, but just intrinsically just was that way. It makes us happy to hear of all the ways she influenced you. But know that the ripple to you was also 1 to her. Much love, Chris, Dave Pete and Jim Stangel

My deepest condolences to the Stangel family. Mrs Stangel was my kindergarten teacher at BCES. She was the foundation of my educational learning. I wouldn't be where I am today without her. She will be deeply missed.

Thank you Maribel for your kind thoughts. As family members we never really had any idea how her students felt, nor the impact that she may have made on so many people's lives. Thank you for letting us know how she affected you. On behalf of the whole family, thank you. Chris Dave, Pete and Jim Stangel

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Even though she was my cousin I didn’t know her very well but was absolutely floored when I read her obituary. I never knew she was a quilter. I would have loved to talk to her and see her beautiful quilts. Keep her memories close to your heart.

The Croce family was a part of our growing up. Family get togethers with large families (of which yours, with 14 children took first place!) were always fun. If you had known her, you would have had a quilt, or 2 I'm sure. Thank you for reaching out to our family. Chris, Dave, Pete and Jim Stangel

Connie was a Delta Kappa Gamma sister. Since we both taught Kindergarten, we spent many happy times reminiscing together. She was always a great supporter of mine during the time I was the chapter president of our organization. My love and prayers are with the family.

Ginny, thank you for your message. She was very proud of being in Delta Kappa Gamma and it wasn't until Friday night at the funeral home when your sisters came to present the white rose to my Mother that we really had any idea how much she and the chapter have done for so many. She was never really one to talk about herself and her accomplishments. Thank you all for sharing that with us. Chris, Dave, Pete and Jim Stangel.
