Rose Mary Strang was born Rosa Maria Ruff on February 17,1931 in the Bronx, NYC, to the late Caspar and Anna (Lind) Ruff. Rose passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2023. She was a graduate of James Monroe H.S. in the Bronx and attended Hunter College on the Bronx Campus, which is now Lehman College. Rose married Gustav Strang on May 20, 1951 in St. Joan of Arc Church in the Bronx. They lived in Lyndhurst, NJ, East Hanover, NJ and moved to Monticello in 1964, where they raised their 6 children. They were happily married for 67 years. Rose was a bank bookkeeper for 6 years in the Bronx, NY and Newark, NJ. She retired from the Monticello School District, where she was a cashier/food service worker for 23 years at the middle school under the American Restaurant Association and then the school district. She is survived by her six devoted and cherished children; Susan Mahan of Monticello, NY, Michael Strang of Mongaup Valley, NY, Barbara Ketcham (Evan) of Monticello, NY, Peter Strang (April) of Monticello, NY, John Strang of Monticello, NY, and Rose Comfort (Ron) of Bloomingburg, NY. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one brother, Peter Ruff (Linda) of South Carolina. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gustav, and her two brothers, Caspar John and Stephen Ruff, and one son-in-law, James B. Mahan III. Rose will be cremated. Interment will be held privately at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Donations in Rose's name can be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
