Obituary of Barbara Ann Weise

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Ann Weise, of Claryville, passed away on April 23, 2023. She was 86.

She was born March 23, 1937 in Cicero, IL.  She was the daughter of the late Harry Remp and Ann Kujawa.

Barbara moved from Illinois to New York State and lived in Nyack, New City, then settled in Claryville. Barbara and her husband Joe became the proprietors of the Claryville General store for many years. Barbara also worked in the Sullivan County Community College library.  She then worked at the Tri-Valley Central School District.  For over 30 years she was a school aide and substitute. One of the favorite parts of her job was watching all of her students learn, grow, and graduate. After retirement, Barbara volunteered at the Daniel Pierce library where she loved to help at Toddler Time and chat with all visitors.

Barbara loved nothing more than the beach.  Her travels took her to Maine, Cape Cod, Cape May, Chincoteague, and Sanibel Island.  She spent her time sunning and walking along the shore searching for special shells, Cape May diamonds, and other interesting things washed up by the waves.  She also loved the Adirondacks and would enjoy fishing, swimming, and watching the beautiful sunsets.

Barbara’s most lasting legacy will be her spectacular garden in Claryville NY.  She tended each plant and flower with love and care.  All would be welcome to walk the paths to admire the beautiful flowers and take home a bouquet or basket of vegetables.

Barbara always made her home a warm and welcoming place for everyone to come and visit. She loved spending time with her family and friends. We will miss playing Scrabble with her even though it was very difficult to win, she was a master.  We will also miss watching Jeopardy with her, her vast knowledge of trivia was impressive.  Barbara will be missed by everyone that knew and loved her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Sue VanValkenburg and her husband Gary of Grahamsville, NY, Mary Purcell and her husband Jim of Rivervale, NJ, and William J. Weise of Charlotte, NC; her daughter-in-law Kathleen Weise of Grahamsville; her grandchildren Michael and Kate VanValkenburg, Justin and Melissa Purcell, and Naomi Weise; her great-grandchildren Worth and Scarlett; and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph G. Weise Jr. and her son Joseph G. Weise III.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Claryville Cemetery at 11:30am.

A donation may be made to the Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville, NY in her memory.
