Obituary of Barbara Catherine Boncek

Barbara Catherine Boncek, of Grahamsville, passed away on July 16, 2023. She was 92 years old.

Barbara was born on September 8, 1930, in Tuxedo, NY to James Moran and Anna Madar Moran. Barbara was a beloved and skilled educator who taught Middle School Social Studies at Tri-Valley Central School in Grahamsville for many years. She was a writer, artist, and a dedicated wife and mother who proudly raised five children: four sons and one daughter. Barbara was extremely active in the community; she was a member of the Daniel Pierce Library’s Alchemy Poetry Club and Studio Monday Artists, as well as a member of the Grahamsville Ambulance Corp. and founding member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne, NY. Barbara’s gentle demeanor and light-filled smile could put anyone at ease. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Louis Boncek, her brother, James Moran, and her sister, Mary Durham. She leaves behind to cherish in memory her children: Louis Boncek Jr. and his wife Sharon, John Boncek, Mark Boncek and his wife Michele, Marianna Boncek and her partner Dave Kime, and Holley Robert Boncek and his wife Donna; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of friends and acquaintances.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10-12 pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Route 52, in Woodbourne, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 12:30 pm at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 6317 State Route 42, Woodbourne, NY. Interment will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery.
