Obituary of Beverly Ann Sellers-Young

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Beverly Ann Sellers-Young of Middletown passed away at the age of 60 years old. The eldest child of the late Boise Sellers Jr and Pastor Ruth Sellers-Ward, she was born on December 18, 1962 in Liberty NY. She was baptized and raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord, at Mission Church of God, presided by her grandfather, the late Reverend Boise Jack Sellers. Her mother, Pastor Ruth Sellers-Ward, was successively installed as pastor. Beverly was the Sunday School secretary for many years and sung on the youth choir. Beverly graduated from Liberty High School in 1980, and attended college at Binghamton University and Sullivan County Community College earning her license as a Registered Nurse. In 1985, she welcomed a son, Darnell Sellers, her most treasured pride and joy. In 1993, she married the late Derrick Young and the duo became a trio. She had a robust professional career dedicated to nursing and caring for others. In her 30+ years of nursing, she held supervisory and non-supervisory roles, in countless hospitals, nursing and private homes. She was patient focused, compassionate and took pride in her work. Beverly was a devoted mother to Darnell, her love and advocacy for him knew no bounds. She was fiercely loyal and protective of her family. If you wanted an honest opinion, she was the one to go to. She was an avid doll collector, a hobby that started years earlier playing dolls with her youngest sister. She was a history buff and reveled in African American history. She inherited her father's love of fishing and his contagious laugh. She will sorely be missed and will forever stay in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derrick Young, and her father, Boise Sellers Jr. She is survived by her mother, Pastor Ruth Sellers-Ward and stepfather, Bishop Thomas Ward of Monticello, beloved son, Darnell Sellers of Middletown, two sisters, Rachel Sellers of Liberty, Debra Sellers of Florida, three brothers, Boise Sellers III, wife Linda Sellers of Liberty, Eric Sellers, wife Stacia Sellers of Chester, Tyrone Sellers, wife Carmen Sellers of Liberty, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street Liberty, NY 12754 from 11:00am-12:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Liberty Cemetery, NY.
