I'm so glad I got to see and hug her a couple weeks ago when I drove up to Monticello. She was tough on the outside but had a beautiful soul. I remember hearing her whistle in the morning and all the deer would come to the spot on the grass to eat along with the squirrels, chipmunks and Bluejays. She and aunt Evy would sit on the porch in the summer and watch the hummingbirds on all the beautiful flowers she'd have out. You could always see her hair over the top of the flowers as she sat at the little round table having her coffee. What a fighter she was. Now you are with your beautiful girl...Fly high Ellie. Give my mom a hug for me.
I loved my cousin, Ellie. I was 8 years old when she was born. I grew up in Smallwood and lived across the road from Aunt Evy and Uncle Marty when their kids were growing up. I baby sat for Ellie and Jimmy and Georgie when I was 12 and 13 years old. I will miss her when I come to Smallwood to visit. I will always picture her sitting on the back porch reading the paper and watching the cars go up and down Overlook Drive. I am so grateful she took care of her Mom and was her constant companion.
