Obituary of Janet Ann Murns
Janet Ann Murns, 89, a lifetime resident of Sullivan County, passed peacefully in her sleep on December 11, 2023. Janet was born in Monticello, NY to Leonard and Myrtle Price (Coney) on June 21, 1934.
A devoted wife, Janet was married to William "Bill" Murns for 50 years. She and Bill raised ten children together and were blessed to be "home" to over 100 foster children. Janet's love for others was demonstrated most profoundly within her community. Time and time again, family, friends, neighbors, and strangers benefited from her generous heart with food on the table, clothes on their back, gifts under their tree, a kind word, and wise advice. It is with good reason that Mom and Grandma were the only names she would respond to in the last few months of her life. In the few quiet moments she made for herself, Janet loved to crochet, bake, fish, play cards, and sneak a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the middle of the night.
Janet is survived by her seven children, Terri Layton, Dennis Miller, Edgar Murns (Linda), Donna Murns, Joann Payne, Jennifer Stone (Benaiah), and Rosalie Geminiano (Horacio); 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a wealth of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Bill Murns; two sisters, Lois and Lenora; three sons, Danny Miller, Roland Miller, and Richard Miller; three daughter-in-law's, Kathy Morelli (Miller), Donna Barry (Miller), and Sandra Murns; and two son-in-law's, Dennis Payne and Robert Layton.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses in the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility for their loving support of both Janet and her family during this heartbreaking time and during Janet's residency at Achieve.
