Obituary of Charles R Bloom

Charles Russell Bloom of White Lake, NY, was called home on February 2, 2024.

Russell or Russ, as he was known to most, was born April 26, 1957 to parents Charles and Arline Bloom.

Russell grew up in White Lake and graduated from Monticello High School.

Over the years, he worked as a waiter, phone operator, funeral director’s assistant and in residential care for ARC. He would find his life’s work as a family care provider for developmentally delayed men. For over 40 years he cared for, provided a home for and touched the lives of many of “his men” or “his guys” as they were called.

He was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of White Lake. He served as Assistant Director of The Shepherd’s Food Pantry.

Russell had a love for people, family, flowers, music, animals, and all things Woodstock. He was great with stories about all sorts of things, including stories about his family and his family’s history.

He loved feeding the birds and the deer in the backyard. He loved walking through old cemeteries, picnicking and going to yard sales with his best friend. He loved his dogs, rescuing so many over the years. Then came Abbie. They were inseparable. He would tell her … you’re a good girl when you’re sleeping.

Russ was predeceased by many family members. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Bloom and his wife Carol. Nephews, Dan and Michael Bloom, many cousins, extended family and friends. His best friend, Cora, his fur babies Abbie and Foster.

The man known for wearing his hats, wore many hats. Son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, husband, step-father, Pappy, Abbie’s dad, Brother in Christ, best friend or simply friend.

He meant more then he knew to so many and will be deeply missed. Celebrate his life by giving forward in an act of kindness.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3pm at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, White Lake, NY on Friday, February 9, 2024, a Home Going Service for Russell will follow at the church at 3pm. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery and a reception to follow in Faith Hall.

Donations in his memory can be made to:
