I extend my condolences to Jean's family and loved ones. She was an amazing woman!
I first met Jean when she hired me as a school librarian at Pine Tree Elementary School in 1994. She was always gracious and supportive of me. I will forever be grateful to Jean for her help and her kindness. I loved her wit and sense of humor, too! And what did she do when she retired? She became a school administrator in Sullivan County! Job well done, Jean!

Jean was my principal at Pine Tree for many years. When I was moved from 4th grade to 6th grade as my teaching assignment I was very apprehensive. Jean made me feel very confident about this change. It ended up being the very best thing to happen in my career. I loved it. She will be missed by many.RIP Jean.

Jean will always be special to my memories of Monroe-Woodbury as she gave me the opportunity to work as her partner. Because of Jean’s leadership, we were known as the dynamic duo of Pine Tree, a team that could finish each other’s sentences, share a look that spoke volumes and a one liner that only we understood!
Jean was the best role model; she’s taught by example, never afraid to stand up for what she believed. As well as guiding her school, she was also a listener, truly hearing ideas of others and celebrating creativity or a new approach to a task. Realizing that one person does not know everything, she built on the strength of others, creating a cooperative learning environment where working together was celebrated.
There were many facets to our Jean, her devotion to her family, her love of music, her interest in golf as well as her dedication to all of her students and staff. I am proud to think of Jean as more than my mentor, but my friend. Our years together, first at North Main Street Elementary and then at Pine Tree will forever be some of my most cherished memories.
Until we meet again, my friend, know how much you were respected and loved.

Dear Mrs. Maxson,
I was quite young but I remember you as part of my wonderful experiences at Pine Tree Elementary. I also remember you always supporting musicians at all the various Concerts and NYSSMA events. You helped to support the amazing music teachers that shaped me into who I am today and I thank you for that. I am a music teacher now and I am so happy I had such positive music experiences growing up in Monroe Woodbury.
Thank you,
Danielle (Parra) Currie

Jean will always have a special place in my heart. She hired me after I was a stay at home mom for several years. I really wasn’t ready to come back to work, yet she believed in me when I wasn’t sure I believed in myself. She had high expectations, yet she was always fair and she loved deeply. Prayers and condolences to her family.
