Mrs. Nandini Susan Weitzman (nee Lynn), 85, of South Fallsburg, N.Y. passed away on 28th September 2016.
Nandini Susan Weitzman was born in Skippack, Pennsylvania. The eldest daughter of Ernest Edward Lyon Lynn and Frances Lynn (nee Hunsberger), she is predeceased by her loving husband of over 50 years, Efrem Basava Weitzman. Nandini Susan is survived by her two younger brothers, Edward Lynn and Joel Lynn and their families. She is also survived by her children Chaya Persia Spencer (nee Weitzman) of Upper Saddle River, NJ, and Charney (Dhruva) Weitzman of Castlepollard, Ireland, and their respective families, as well as her Stepdaughter Dara Klassel and her family.
Mrs. Weitzman graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1953 and a Masters of Education from New York University in 1959. She was an accomplished artist working in textiles as part of the craft movement of the 1960s. She exhibited widely and was included in the first show of contemporary textiles held at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). She taught art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and later at the New Lincoln School in New York City.
Mrs. Weitzman took time out of work to raise her two children. She then went on to pursue business interests in health related fields pioneering sales in water purification and air ionization systems. Later she studied and qualified as a nutritionist. She was a practitioner in many alternative therapy modalities having studied homeopathy, practiced radionics, dowsing, reflexology, reiki, semei and aroma therapy. Most recently she was involved in selling Young Living Essential Oils and was a valued member of the Young Living business community.
Mrs. Weitzman was a deeply spiritual person. She founded the first Siddha Yoga meditation centre in New York City in 1972. She remained heavily involved in Siddha Yoga throughout the rest of her life providing valuable service to the foundation in many ways, including serving as manager of the Manhattan Ashram for a number of years.
Mrs. Weitzman had an insatiable appetite for life and an indomitable spirit. She travelled to India twice in the early 1970s and once again in 1979 to study with her guru Baba Muktananda. More recently she travelled to Ecuador and the Middle East with the Young Living Company and Japan to study with the Semei Foundation. Having a hip and two knee replacements three months before traveling to Egypt she was so determined to experience the Dead Sea, the pyramids and other antiquities that she spent weeks in preparation walking the corridors of Home Depot with her husband, Basava.
Nandini Susan Weitzman had an extensive network of friends both in the US and spread throughout the world. She will be deeply missed by the many people that she helped, worked with, supported and befriended. She was always keen to question, to learn and to understand.
There will be a memorial service held in Colonial Memorial Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 on Saturday, 8th October, 2016, from 2pm-4pm. The family will be available to receive visitors at Nandini’s residence, 18 Morris Drive, South Fallsburg, NY, from 11am-1pm and 5pm-8pm on Friday, 7th October, 2016. Donations to the Sierra Club are requested, in lieu of flowers.
