Joseph G. Weise Jr, of Claryville, passed away on Wednesday, September 21st, 2016. He was 79.
He was the son of the late Joseph G. Weise Sr and Stella Magda, born on May 29th, 1937 in Chicago, IL.
Joseph proudly served our country in the Air National Guard after he graduated from high school. He worked as a salesman and a handyman at his store, the Claryville General Store, was a trusted caretaker of local homes, and a freelance artist of every imagination. A favorite pastime of his was working on creations in his shop, where he has produced innumerable items such as seashell lights, carved whale or bird decor, and custom made domino sets, just to name a few. He loved the outdoors and spent most of his free time outside hunting, fishing, golfing and taking in the scenery of the Adirondacks and the beauty of Claryville. He also loved bird watching and was even a member of the national and local Audubon Society. You could often find him collecting shells along the beach at Sanibel Island, Florida during the winter as well as enjoying the beaches of Cape Cod, Cape May, and Chincoteaque Island. Joseph was also a past member of the Claryville Fire Dept.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann; his children: Sue VanValkenburg and her husband Gary of Grahamsville, Mary Purcell and her husband Jim of Rivervale, NJ, and William J. Weise of Charlotte, NC; his daughter-in-law Kathleen Weise of Grahamsville; his grandchildren Michael and Kate VanValkenburg, Justin and Melissa Purcell, and Naomi Weise; siblings Mary Geyer and her husband Leonard of Countryside, IL, James and his wife Viki of Riverforest, IL, and Robert and his wife Laurie of Lakewood, CO; as well as several nieces and nephews.
