Obituary of Wilson Edward DeMyer
Please share a memory of Wilson to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wilson Edward DeMyer was born on July 16, 1931, the only child of Harry and Hazel DeMyer. On Sunday, December 26, 2021, he slipped his earthly bonds. He was 90 years old.
Wilson is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Evelyn Anna DeMyer. Together they were long-time residents of Grahamsville, NY, before moving to Saratoga Springs. Wilson was much loved by his family. He is survived by his daughter Tanya DeMyer McLean, her husband, Jim McLean, and his granddaughters Sadie and Sydney of Arlington, MA; his daughter Kelly Thimineur and her husband Dean Thimineur of Mechanicville, NY; his granddaughter Jenny Thimineur and his great-grandchildren Alyssa and Gregory of Rome, NY; his grandson Phineas Graham and his wife, Elyse Graham, of Clifton Park, NY; his grandson Tyler Graham of Glenville, NY; his grandson John Gasko, his wife Laura Gasko, and his great-grandchildren Aviel and Maya of Dallas, TX; and his son-in-law George O'Neill of Schenectady, NY (husband to his late daughter, Bonnie O'Neill). Wilson was predeceased by his daughter Terry Keeler and son Randy Keeler.
Wilson proudly served in the United States Army, and was stationed for a time in Japan. Back stateside, he graduated from Oneonta Teachers College. He was a long-time teacher with the Port Jervis School system, where he was a tireless advocate for fair wages for teachers. He taught sociology with a love of numbers, and he appreciated what data can tell us about a place and the people who live there. He loved history and genealogy, and NY sports. A soft-spoken man, Wilson was a passionate fan of the Jets and the Mets-and never met an umpire or referee that he agreed with. Wilson served on the Tri-Valley Central School Board, and was active with the NY Rural Schools Association, believing that small settings could produce big results.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11am on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Colonial-Ramsay Funeral Home, 275 South Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754. A graveside service will be held at 11:30am at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
