Obituary of Gene Albert Walter
Please share a memory of Gene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gene Albert Walter passed away peacefully at the Roscoe Rehabilitation & Nursing Center on April 8, 2023. He was 81 years old. The son of Albert Walter and Rachel (Kile) Walter, Gene was born on February 24, 1942, in Monticello, NY.
A lifelong resident of the area, Gene was a standout athlete at Tri-Valley Central School and later attended Cornell University where he studied Animal Husbandry. He devoted his career to dairy farming, first at a farm on Thunder Hill and ultimately back at Divine Corners while raising two children alongside his late wife Elizabeth (Spann) Walter. Gene enjoyed following sports, spending time with his grandchildren, caring for animals including his dogs Luke and Bagel, and occasionally returning to the top of Thunder Hill where he felt a sense of happiness.
Gene is survived by his loving companion Pauline King; sons Kyle Walter and his wife Sandra (Shreiner) of Loch Sheldrake, NY and Taylorsville, NC, and George Walter (Renee Pacella) of New Windsor, NY; his grandchildren Alexis and Julianna; his step grandchildren Jessica Kaufman and her children Juan Jay, Jayden, Sarah, and Orion and Jennifer Pelayes (Raul) and their children Tyler and Ashlyn: his brother Richard Walter (Diane O’Brien) of Pine Mountain Club, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Roscoe Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the excellent care and love they showed Gene during his time there.
