Obituary of Mickey Barnett
Mickey Barnett, 81, of Bethel, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
He was born in Yonkers, NY to Michael and Evelyn Pelepako and attended Commerce High School.
Mickey was involved in every phase of the entertainment industry. At a young age, he started acting in bit parts on network television programs but decided on a singing career at age seventeen. His wide range style as an entertainer had him appearing at concerts, hotel nightclubs, worldwide resorts, fairs and on both radio and television. Mickey has received numerous awards over the years from many organizations in the music industry and locally including Band of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year and were displayed proudly in his office and recording studio. In 2021, Mickey was deeply honored to be named the 2021 recipient of the Sullivan County Historical Society History Maker Award for his contributions to the entertainment world through originality and influence producing, performing music and having a significant impact on the arts, music and culture of Sullivan County. As such, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sullivan County Historical Society.
Mickey was preceded in death by his companion of 14 years, Naomi McCormick and sister Doris Drost.
He is survived by his brothers Jack Pelepako and his wife Jane of Mahopac, NY, Bob Pelepako and his wife Martha of North Carolina; his daughter Karen Torres of White Plains, NY; godson Gary Grund and his significant other Michelle of Slate Hill, NY; and grandchildren Thomas Eckes and Janine Eckes.
Although Mickey had so many close family and friends, the family would like to add a special thanks to Edna Tursi, Aldo Troiani, Gary Takorian, and Janine Kurth.
A memorial service will be held at Colonial-Ramsay Funeral Home located at 3534 State Route 55 in Kauneonga Lake, NY on Monday, February 5th from 3-6pm.
A graveside service will be held for close family followed by a celebration of life with family and friends at a future date and location to be determined.
