Dr. Walter Dobushak, of Liberty, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing Home. He was 73.
He was the son of the late Walter Dobushak and Katherine (Kade) Dobushak , born on November 23, 1950 in Irvington, NJ.
Dr. Dobushak obtained his B.A. in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College and then went on to study Osteopathic medicine at Philadelphia College and completed his post graduate training at Memorial General Hospital, American Osteopathic Association and American Academy of Forensic Sciences and finally earning his board certification from both the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians in 1977 and American Academy of Forensic Sciences in 1986. He began his private practice in 1977 and continued his career in medicine. He held many positions over the course of his career including, Clinical Director, Medical Examiner, Chief Medical Examiner, Medical Consultant and Medical Director, all at various hospitals and facilities in New York and Pennsylvania, he was particularly proud of the position of Facility Health Service Director through the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he presided over the care of many people. He was a member of the American Osteopathic Association and Pennsylvania Osteopathic Association. And he also held several academic positions including Clinical Associate Professor at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and Clinical Preceptor at Pace University.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Harriet Loizeaux-Dobushak; children Joshua (Jena) Schwartz, Benjamin T. Schwartz, Theodore “Teddy” Schwartz (Nicole), Valerie Dobushak and Nadiya Dobushak; grandchildren Taylor, Everett, and Jackson Schwartz, Aubre and Isla Schwartz and Holden Dobushak; cousins Dennis Kade (Helene), Maria Cade and Diane Rheinhart; his mother-in-law Kathryn B. Loizeaux; and God-children Andre, Christine, Myron and Olya Cade.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Dobushak’s name can be made to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church, 211 Foordmore Rd. Kerhonkson, NY 12446.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7pm on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788, with the Panakhyda following at 7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, February 17th at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church, 211 Foordmore Rd. Kerhonkson, NY 12446. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Cox Lane, White Sulphur Springs, NY.
